Pallets and pallet boxes have been traditionally made of wood, a material that is durable, flexible and easy to access. However, wood also has its drawbacks...
Wood can degrade badly over time, especially if exposed to the elements or stored outside. Wood rots and pallets become unsafe and not fit for use. Also, and especially true for pallet boxes, is that wood can be very heavy and cumbersome, making it difficult to move or stack. Wood can also have moving and handling issues and this is why businesses all over the UK are opting instead to use plastic pallets and plastic pallet boxes in their warehouses and storage areas.
Why
change to plastic?
Plastic pallet boxes are cleaner, safer and more economic. They are easier and safer to move, better for stacking and incredibly durable. But there’s a whole range of other benefits too.
For
example, plastic pallet boxes are moulded under extreme pressure and in highly
polished moulds so they have 100% size and strength consistency. This means
that every time you use a plastic pallet box you know what load it can take and
that it will stack exactly as required. Plastic is also up to ten times more
durable than wood, so you won’t lose out on your investment due to broken or
rotting pallets. It also means that plastic pallets are better for manual
handling safety as they don’t splinter or include sharp nails in their design.
Of course, you might be thinking that going plastic in an age when this is one of our main environmental concerns might cause concerns, but you should be reassured that all plastic pallet boxes are 100% recyclable and environmentally friendly. They are also exempt from the ISPM15 regulations for international safety standards, meaning they do not need to be heat treated with nasty chemicals and there is no need to certify them for use.
Unlike
wood and metal pallet boxes, they are also suitable for use in hygienic areas as
they remain free from contaminants and are easy to wash and clean after use. And
because they are also impervious to moisture, as well as acids and alkali, this
further expands their area of use.
Plastic pallet boxes are also collapsible, meaning they can form part of a space-saving system for your warehouse or storage area, as well as in transit. This means fewer journeys and a reduced fuel bill for your business.
So, as you can see, plastic pallet boxes represent an all-round better investment and choice of materials than their wood counterparts. Maybe it’s time you made the change to a plastic pallet box pool and changed the way that you work in your storage areas.
