10 Tonne Ratchet Straps, also known as 10 tonne tie down straps, 10 tonne cargo straps, 10 tonne lorry straps or 10 tonne lashing straps, are high strength with durable fixings for securing and moving large and heavy objects. They are available in standard 6m, 8m and 10metre lengths with 50mm wide webbing and rated break force of 10,000daN(kg) and lashing capacity 5000daN(kg). Manufactured to EN12195-2 2001 standards.

You should use ratchet straps when transporting loads in or on the backs of vehicles or for securing general cargo when there is a risk of movement or falling. It is vital to make sure that any straps you’re using are secure before you set off. Failure to do so could result in damage or danger to persons or property.

Weight capacity of straps

One of the most important things to consider is the weight of the load you’re strapping down. You need to have a rough idea of how much your cargo weighs and use a suitable type and number of straps to secure it. The safe working load limit, or WLL, will be clearly identified on the packaging and strap itself. To safely secure a load, the combined WLL must be greater than the weight of the load itself. It’s always recommended to use straps in pairs.

Length of straps

Straps need to be long enough to reach from tie down point to tie down point or to at least safely secure a load to a suitable fixing. If the ratchet straps are too short they will not offer a secure fixing. Any excess strap must be securely fastened to stop it coming loose and flapping when on the move.

The most commonly used type of strap can be attached over suitable areas on vehicles, trailers and most kinds of anchor points.

Tightening devices

Ratchet allows you to make the strap tight and secure. Use the lever to repeatedly tighten the strap until you’re sure your load is secure. Ratchet straps are easier to tighten than cam buckle straps, winch straps and other securing mechanisms.

There is also a range of protective accessories to help protect your load including plastic corner protectors and heavy duty wear sleeves to protect the ratchet strap webbing.
